British farmers fear that they are facing competition from a flood of cheap food imports after it emerged that Canada is seeking greater access to the UK market for its food producers.

Canadian trade negotiators have been encouraged to expect an improved trade deal by the generous terms set to be granted to Australia, which is expected to pave the way for a similar deal with New Zealand.
